“Is It Friendship?” By Breaking Chains Lyrics by Skylar, Adrena, and Mahogne Band Leaders: Scott Carney & James Lindsey You forgot about me Kicked me to the curb Our friendship was a lesson A lesson to be learned I tried to stay and make it work But we never could go back to where we were Isn’t friendship being there for each other? Isn’t friendship being real to each other? Isn’t friendship forgiving each other? Is it friendship? Is it friendship? A year and 7 months down the drain ‘Cause a girl with no trust Got in our way I stood by your side But when you told me leave A tear fell down My cheek Isn’t friendship being there for each other? Isn’t friendship being real to each other? Isn’t friendship forgiving each other? Is it friendship? Is it friendship? Who was there When they broke your heart? We used to be best friends But now we grew apart Been a year Since we spoke Our bond is forever Forever broke But i’ll get over it Just like you Just like you Just like you Isn’t friendship being there for each other? Isn’t friendship being real to each other? Isn’t friendship forgiving each other? Is it friendship? Is it friendship? No longer need you I’ve got myself I can stay strong Without your help I got a million friends And you’re not one You’re not one You’re not one Isn’t friendship being there for each other? Isn’t friendship being real to each other? Isn’t friendship forgiving each other? Is it friendship? Is it friendship?

Empty Meadow 04:01
“Empty Meadow” By Triple S Lyrics by Rukya, Italia, Bethany, & Medina Band Leaders: Rachel Grimes & Carter Wood Sartor “LIFE ISN’T FAIR BUT HOPE CAN MAKE THE CHANGE” Verse 1 I walk through the meadow to clear my mind Tears like a tsunami, rushing down I’ve lost all the color in my life Just like the sunset, fading out CHORUS Hopeful means red like a fire That tries to die out faster than you will allow Trying hard to ease the pain But the pain keeps coming back, just like the rain Verse 2 All these scars upon my heart Feels like I’m falling, falling apart I can see those shadows in the dark They’re just teardrops of a broken heart CHORUS 2 Hopeful brings a yellow sun Warmth for everyone, to laugh along Shining til the night falls Bright like a soft hijab, the story never stops My heart is broken Which piece do I follow CHORUS 3 Hopeful brings blue like the sky Blooms and comes to life, just wait and see I see the pretty flower in the weeds No more crying, it says to me
3.
“Banquets of Love and Shadows “ By Guardian Angels Lyrics by Aya, Rebecca, Damari, and Liliana Band leaders: Jim James & Tyrone Cotton When the thunder roars inside you Remember support is by you When the puddle of tears is deep Don’t let rude comments get to you I’m not there but that doesn’t mean I’m not here I’m not there but that doesn’t mean I’m not here Eyes glow under our skin a thousand eyes above Listen for my whisper remember you’re not alone I’m not there but that doesn’t mean I’m not here I’m not there but that doesn’t mean I’m not here The shadow will support you feels so warm like summer the light of happiness banquets of love Tears of loneliness turn to rain of joy You still have your shadow in the dark Sunlight shines inside you The shadow will always choose you Your shadow says yes you can When you’re growing, your shadow is growing too I’m not there but that doesn’t mean I’m not here I’m not there but that doesn’t mean I’m not here I’m not there but that doesn’t mean I’m not here Tears turn into rainbows Tears of loneliness turn to joy You still have your shadow in the dark Sunlight shines inside you I’m not there but that doesn’t mean I’m not here I’m not there but that doesn’t mean I’m not here Solo- Damari

Hope is Here 03:21
“Hope is Currently Untitled” By The Daydreamers Lyrics by Jayda, Tanasia, Olivia, and Hayley Band Leaders: 1200 & Teddy Abrams I open my eyes and I see An abandoned mother crying In a dark corner Is hope here tears hed as a sister is losing a brother Is hope here as the trigger is pulled Is hope here Cancer scores again Is hope here Loss cast over our city Is hope here Poverty never ends Is hope here Is hope here I close my eyes Hope is here I notice a speck of light But not too bright Hope is here Light swallows the darkness Hope is here Hope is the last drop of orange juice Dancing like stars Is hope here (hope is here) Is hope here (hope is here) Hope is a seed That grows into a dozen roses Hope lies in every speckle of a freckle Apple blossoms bloom Green, yellow, red They spread and spread On earth growing beautifully Things of joy Is hope here (hope is here) Is hope here (hope is here) One breathtaking thing on earth is a miracle Smell of innocence Free of debris Flashback to the light I realize Hope is on the horizon

about

Young Authors Greenhouse is a non-profit organization in Louisville, Kentucky that inspires students ages 6-18 to recognize the power of their voices and stories. All of our programs revolve around the belief that young people have something important to say and should be taken seriously. We bring volunteers and students together to think, learn, and collaborate together. We work with our students to write for authentic audiences—to connect in a broader way, to join the conversations happening in our community, country, and world. We do this by publishing our student work in books—and in this case, by producing a record!

Teddy Abrams and Jim James had the idea to create a songwriting program for our students and helped recruit local musicians to put the idea into action. For two weeks, seventh-graders at Olmsted Academy South, an all-girls middle school in Louisville, KY, worked together in bands on writing and revising lyrics.

Once they had solid drafts, the musicians rolled in! Jim James, Teddy Abrams, Tyrone Cotton, Scott Carney, James Lindsey, 1200, Rachel Grimes, and Carter Wood Sartor paired up and started working with a student band. Working together, note-by-note, the musicians and authors worked together to put the words to song—creating melodies that reflect the lyrics beautifully. At the end of the week, the bands performed these songs on stage. This record is full of courage, joy, and so much hope.
